Back right burner burned orange and left soot on the copper pan. Someone had fitted an orifice meant for propane. He put the right one in and the flame is blue and even.

Clicking never stopped once the flame was up. A knob switch had gummed shut from an old spill. Easy fix in the end, though the first appointment slid a day and nobody called ahead.
